Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company “Recycling Group”

The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture signed a memorandum of understanding with the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company "Recycling Group" in the presence of HE Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture. The memorandum discussed the development of investment opportunities that target the enhancement of the waste management sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Ministry by HE Eng. Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of Municipalities Affairs and on behalf of the Recycling Group by Eng. Ali Mohammed Al Dhaheri, Managing Director, and CEO.

HE the Minister emphasized the strength of the long-standing brotherly ties that bind the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Bahrain. HE also highlighted that the memorandum is in line with the ongoing cooperation efforts between the Kingdom of Bahrain and United Arab Emirates and contributes to the goal of integration between Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

HE stated that the memorandum of understanding covers various topics such as areas for collaboration between the public and private sectors, the importance of exchanging knowledge and expertise in fields of waste management and recycling including training opportunities and any other opportunities to enhance skills, capabilities, and awareness in the abovementioned fields. The memorandum also stipulates the exchange of information and research, whenever possible, in accordance with the policies and obligations of each party. HE the Minister noted that coordination and periodic meetings should be conducted regularly to ensure the success of all initiatives.

 For his part, HE the Undersecretary of Municipalities Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa praised the Recycling Group's efforts and endeavors to achieve sustainable development and build a sustainable society. He also stated that the memorandum will be focusing on cooperation in projects pertaining to waste-to-energy conversion, recycling of plastic materials, recycling of electrical and electronic waste and equipment and the recycling of used cooking oil. HE the Undersecretary noted that the memorandum of understanding aims to enhance cooperation with the Recycling Group to provide an ideal sustainability model for waste management and contribute to enhancing the exchange of expertise, information, projects, and experiences related to waste management and recycling.

The Group's Managing Director and CEO, Eng. Ali Mohammed Al Dhaheri added “We look forward to identifying and developing new opportunities in the waste management sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain through this memorandum of understanding. We will aim to create opportunities for cooperation in training and the exchange of research and knowledge, as well as opportunities to enhance capabilities and raise awareness”.
