October 2024 to December 2024

The campaign's dedicated truck visited more than 57 sites.

Engineer Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs at the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, announced the successful conclusion of the pioneering "Seeds of Bahrain" campaign. The campaign, held in collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, concluded after nearly three months. During this period, the campaign visited numerous locations across the Kingdom of Bahrain, contributing to raising awareness about the importance of green spaces and supporting the National Afforestation Plan.

The Undersecretary emphasized the significance of the "Seeds of Bahrain" campaign in promoting urban and environmental sustainability. He highlighted that the campaign aims to strengthen community partnership in transitioning towards more sustainable urban systems by increasing green spaces in the Kingdom. This, in turn, supports sustainable environmental solutions that leave a lasting impact on urban life and its residents. He expressed hope for the continuation of this constructive collaboration, which contributes to advancing the path of sustainable development and aligns with the Kingdom’s environmental commitments and objectives, including increasing green areas and doubling the number of trees to reach 3.6 million by 2035.

Sheikh Mohammed stated that since its launch in October 2024, the "Seeds of Bahrain" campaign, through its dedicated truck, has visited over 57 locations. More than 13,000 seedlings were distributed to citizens and residents to spread awareness and directly engage with the public in Bahrain's streets, neighborhoods, schools, and various institutions, providing an opportunity for active participation in afforestation efforts.

He added, "These activities affirm our commitment to improving the environment by engaging communities, raising awareness, and encouraging active participation. The campaign has helped strengthen the community’s sense of environmental responsibility."

Ghadir Al-Aradi, Communications and Public Relations Officer at UN-Habitat in Bahrain stated, "We are proud of the impact that the 'Seeds of Bahrain' campaign has had in promoting sustainable urban development throughout the Kingdom. This campaign is not just about planting trees; it’s about fostering a culture of sustainability and community engagement."

She added, "Although the campaign has concluded, its effects will remain, and the partnerships established will drive future initiatives focused on urban afforestation, sustainability, and environmental protection."
