“Mobile Nursery” Distributes 4,455 Seedlings and Visits 14 Areas Around Bahrain
The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture launched the “Mobile Nursery” initiative during the Holy Month of Ramadan. The nursery aims to spread environmental awareness and encourage citizens and residents to participate in afforestation efforts.
The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, in cooperation with the Municipal Councils, distributed 4,455 seedlings through its mobile nursery. The nursery also visited 14 different areas across all governorates with the aim of encouraging afforestation and increasing green areas.
HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of Municipalities Affairs stated that this initiative is in line with the National Afforestation Strategy and the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to reach carbon neutrality by the year 2060.
The Undersecretary explained that the Ministry seeks to increase community participation, volunteer work, and attract ideas from all members of society with hopes of creating an environmentally aware community interested in afforestation and preserving the environment.
HE Sheikh Mohammed stated that the “Mobile Nursery” initiative is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Bahrain and comes under the slogan “Together We Plant” in partnership with the Capital Secretariat Council and the Municipal Councils. HE stressed the importance of continuing this initiative due to the public’s positive response to it.
It is worth noting that the Mobile Nursery serves also as an educational tool as it travels between areas, parks and coasts to spread environmental and afforestation awareness among citizens and residents motivating them to participate in afforestation efforts that contribute to the sustainable development of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
