Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Organizes "Fruit Tree Propagation" Workshop for 200 Teachers

The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, organized a training workshop titled “Fruit Tree Propagation” for over 200 teachers from schools across the Kingdom of Bahrain. This initiative is part of joint efforts to enhance agricultural production and promote environmental and agricultural awareness among various segments of society.

His Excellency Eng. Assem Abdul Latif Abdullah, Undersecretary for Agriculture Affairs and Animal Wealth at the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, stated that the workshop comes in response to the growing interest in plant cultivation due to its health and environmental benefits. This initiative contributes to the expansion of green spaces in the Kingdom, coinciding with the launch of national initiatives and campaigns to boost agricultural production, in line with Bahrain’s vision to ensure safe and sustainable food reserves within the agricultural development plan.

The Undersecretary explained that the workshop targets agricultural curriculum teachers to support the transfer of agricultural knowledge to students and foster agricultural awareness among future generations. The training focuses on key propagation techniques, the scientific foundations of plant growth to ensure successful cultivation, and education on vegetative propagation methods for trees. It also aims to develop practical skills and enhance technical capabilities in plant care.

H.E emphasized that fostering agricultural literacy among youth is fundamental to building a generation capable of addressing food security challenges, in line with Bahrain Vision 2030 for sustainable development. This includes promoting local agriculture, ensuring food security, and building youth capacity. He noted that the Ministry will continue to organize similar workshops for all segments of society.

Dr. Nilofer Ahmed Al-Jahrami, Environmental Guidance Advisor at the Ministry of Education, stated that the workshop is part of a series of training courses and workshops organized by the Ministry throughout each academic year in collaboration with relevant stakeholders in the Kingdom of Bahrain. These efforts aim to strengthen agricultural and environmental awareness among students and educators by providing access to local and international developments in the field through specialized training conducted by experts. The workshops address contemporary environmental issues, environmental education goals, and methods for integrating them into school curricula.

Dr. Al-Jahrami praised the partnership with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture in this area, highlighting the Ministry of Education’s commitment to advancing the goals of environmental and sustainable education in the educational field. This includes integrating green education into curricula through the development of new textbooks covering environmental education topics and key issues such as climate change, food and water security, and sustainable development. It also involves enriching existing curricula with green economy and environmental topics at both the primary and secondary levels, and designing educational activities that promote environmental values across all educational stages.
